Handy Health Tips
How hard can it be to stay in good health and live a happy and fulfilled life?
This is easier than you think. You don't have to spend half of your time doing medical tests and visiting all kinds of doctors. Just a little bit of prevention and a few regular screening controls can help you discover any serious ailment in an incipient stage, thus making it easier to treat.
Think no further than to allergies. Allergy is not curable, and it only gets worse the more you get exposed to the substance4s which trigger the allergic response from your immune system. Allergy tests are very easy to perform: the lab personnel would scratch a little bit your skin surface on your arms of back and pour on the scratches drops of liquid extract of the most common allergens knows such as dust mites, pollens, pet dander, mold, latex. After about 30 minutes, the scratches are examined: the ones which got reddish and swollen indicate an allergy to the respective substance which was poured on that scratch. If you're not allergic, then nothing happens which the scratch.
I don't know how much such tests cost, but they are worth getting done, in case you suffer from rashes, hives, itchy eyes, running nose with no reason, or difficulties in breathing. For food allergies, there's also another method: a blood sample is drawn from you and it is analyzed in the lab. The results are available after several days, but you are safe. The skin prick tests can be dangerous if you are extremely sensitive to one of the allergens: you can even get into anaphylaxis and die within minutes. This is why such tests need to be done only in specialized medical units which have the emergency equipment required to save your life if such a situation occurs.
Another issue is cancer. If discovered in the very first stage, the chances to get it cured are much higher than if you wait until nothing much can be done to help you. I know persons who lived with breast cancer for more than 15 years, after they got the initial surgery and the chemo-therapy.
Cholesterol is another silent killer: it forms deposits on your blood vessels' walls, thus making those vessels narrower and preventing normal blood circulation and oxygenation of the cells. This can be prevented by a diet poor in saturated fats, which is not very hard to follow and adopt for a whole life.
How Healthy Are We?
We are as healthy as our most damaged organ. This is similar to the chain which is as strong as its weakest link. So, it is not enough to be happy that we have a perfect stomach, and a perfect heart, or a perfect skin, if our back pains kill us on regular basis. Everything has to function flawless, so we can be happy and enjoy life to the full.
